Tony Carella is a graduate in Honours Modern History from the University of Toronto, and a writer, editor and teacher by profession. Currently, he is councillor for Ward 2/Woodbridge West, in the City of Vaughan, having served for more than ten years. Over the course of his career, he has taught history and law in several Toronto secondary schools, served as a special assistant to local MPP Greg Sorbara, edited a bilingual (English and Italian) health magazine, and been a manager with Loblaws Limited. The former president of the National Congress of Italian Canadians (Toronto District) and of Community Living York South, and vice-chair of the York Region District Health Council, he is currently the chair of the Vaughan Community Health Centre. In January 2008, he was named a Fellow of the Royal Society for the encouragement of Arts, Manufactures and Commerce (RSA), for his work in promoting civic engagement on a number of fronts.
