Family & Kids - Discovery Space

Discovery Space was created to increase the accessibility of the McMichael Canadian Art Collection for visitors of all ages. This special gallery is designed to encourage interactive participation with the collection, and to promote an appreciation of art and our rich cultural heritage through multiple perspectives. The activities appeal to visitors of all ages with a particular focus for intergenerational groups and families. Along with a selection of art, Discovery Space provides an award-winning interactive computer program, Art2Life, as well as books, sketching materials and other hands-on art activities. Drawing inspiration from the McMichael’s art collection, this gallery also provides an interactive play area for pre-school and primary aged children. A specially commissioned mural fills the entire play area inviting young and old to travel on the wings of their imaginations. In creating the mural, artist Lorri McMullen took inspiration from Tom Thomson and the Group of Seven’s Algonquin Park paintings, and from Dream: A Tale of Wonder, Wisdom & Wishes.
