Discovery Spaces are created to increase the accessibility of the McMichael Canadian Art Collection for visitors of all ages. Dispersed throughout the galleries, these learning centres are designed to encourage interactive participation with the Collection—to promote an appreciation of art and our rich cultural heritage through multiple perspectives. The activities available in these spaces appeal to visitors of all ages with a particular focus for intergenerational groups and families.
The newly redeveloped play area in gallery 14 is designed to address the needs of our youngest visitors and their families. In this comfortable space, children are encouraged to actively explore elements of design through creative and imaginary play, as well as to engage in storytelling. While their guardians are welcome to join them in these stimulating activities, the space’s relaxing setting also offers adults a respite with a scenic view overlooking the picturesque Humber River Valley.
