Land Connections, Exploring the Group of Seven Legacy, Community Exhibitions In collaboration with Connect Special Needs Program, Vaughan Culture and Recreation
February 2 to 24
Land Connections is a unique art project inspired by the artistic legacy of the Group of Seven. Four workshops led by an expert McMichael art instructor were specifically designed to suit individual abilities of participants and encourage creativity and self-expression. Through the exploration of texturized landscape reproductions, photographs, and small acrylic copies, as well as natural materials such as pine needles and tree bark, the young artists were offered an opportunity to gain an appreciation of pictorial and natural compositions and engage in a sensory experience of painting and modelling. These mixed media landscapes—directly inspired by A.Y. Jackson’s well-known Killarney landscape, Bent Pine -- not only acknowledge the participants’ creative abilities, but also express their enjoyment of the artistic process.
