CAREERS AT MCMICHAEL

This position is dependent on receiving funding through Young Canada Works Building Careers in Heritage Organizations (YCWBCH). All applicants must have graduated within the previous 24 months, and meet all other criteria on the YCW Building Careers website.

 

The scope of the Collection Management Intern’s work will consist of conducting a physical inventory of the gallery’s permanent collection, confirming/updating storage and temporary location records for all objects within the collections management database, developing an inventory report/audit process within the collections management database, rehousing objects and reorganizing storage space where required/time allows, and generating a final report on the project.

The successful candidate will have knowledge of standard collection management practices and handling and storage techniques within a mixed collection, which they will further develop by conducting the physical inventory and updating/confirming records within the McMichael’s collection management database.

Project activities will take place at the McMichael Canadian Art Collection in Kleinburg, Ontario.

The ideal candidate will be a graduate of museum studies with a focus on collections management and preservation, will be a strong team player, and be able to work independently when required. Familiarity with a relational collections management database is an asset, and candidates should also have experience with MS Word and Excel. Interviews will take place on site of the McMichael Canadian Art Collection in late April.

Posting of position will be on the open job board of CMA and on the website of the McMichael Canadian Art Collection, and open to all qualified applicants, as per the Young Canada Works funding criteria. Interview questions will be established based on the top competencies required to do the job. Interviews will take place on site of McMichael Canadian Art Collection, by Human Resources and a representative from the Collections department. All candidates will be asked and graded based on the same interview questions including compliance with YCW Building Careers in Heritage internship eligibility requirements.
