The McMichael’s special connection to the land is acknowledged as much through the themes underlying its art collection as through the meticulously cultivated wilderness on the McMichael grounds. Artists from across Ontario will scout the grounds of the McMichael and Kleinburg village for a perfect setting to paint. Following in the footsteps of A.J. Casson, who in 1929 set his easel down to sketch the Village of Kleinburg, these artists will create works that capture the unique spirit of the McMichael grounds and the historic charm of Kleinburg. The works will then be a part of a juried show on Sunday, August 26, and all visitors are invited to vote for the People’s Choice Award! Selected works will be exhibited in the McMichael’s Community Gallery.
For artists interested in participating in this year’s McMichael En Plein Air Competition, click here for more information on application details, submission requirements and eligibility.
Families are also invited to participate in an en plein air drop-in workshop! Come grab some en plein air art supplies, breathe the fresh air, and get inspired by the spectacular McMichael grounds as you sketch the landscape. The en plein air drop-in workshop will be open from 11 am to 4 pm, located at the Pine Cottage picnic tables.
