Humber River Photo Contest

Supported by Friends of the Greenbelt Foundation

Application Deadline: Thursday, August 15, 2019 by 5 pm

 Contest Description

In conjunction with the 20th anniversary of the Humber River’s designation as Canadian Heritage River, the McMichael invites photographers to participate in this special Photo Contest celebrating the natural and cultural legacy of the Humber River. Participants will be able to submit their works within two thematic categories:

  1. The Humber River and its Natural Beauty
    • Images that focus on the Valley’s landscape and its natural habitats
  2. The People of the Humber River
    • Images that celebrate the communities along the river as well as the cultural and architectural heritage of the Valley

Awards and Exhibition

Up to three photographers from each category will be named First, Second, and Third Prize winners through a jury comprised of the gallery’s curators and associate community artists.

Photographers will be encouraged to compete for Friends of the Greenbelt Award. The winning image will best capture the role of the Greenbelt-protected urban Humber River valley as a critical natural resource within a developed landscape. Submissions from both thematic categories will be considered.

A special People’s Choice Award will allow visitors to participate online between August 17 and 24, 2019 and to choose online their favourite image. Only one vote per person will be accepted.

The awarded works will be on view in the McMichael’s Creative Learning Gallery in Fall 2019.

General Information

Participants retain the copyright to their photographs. However, by entering the contest they will grant the McMichael and Friends of the Greenbelt the right to use the image for publicity, print and exhibition purposes.

The McMichael Canadian Art Collection will be responsible for printing the awarded images for the display purposes and will cover exhibition costs (framing, exhibition panel, labeling and production of promotional material), and opening reception expenditures.
