The McMichael Canadian Art Collection ranks among Canada’s top public galleries in size and significance. The McMichael permanent collection consists of over 6,400 works of art by Tom Thomson, the Group of Seven, their contemporaries, and First Nations, Métis, Inuit and other historical and contemporary artists who have made or are making a contribution to Canada’s artistic heritage. The gallery welcomes on average more than 110,000 regional, national and international visitors annually.

The Gallery is recruiting for a Media Intern student to fulfill placement hours for students in the fields of Business, Marketing, Interactive Media or Public Relations, to gain experience within a not-for profit, cultural agency. This is an unpaid work experience to meet school credits.

The Media Intern will assist with the research and writing of press releases and advisories for new exhibitions, Moonlight Gala and other scheduled special events and will assist with media day coordination, preparing media kits, following up with and helping fulfill requests from journalists, website and bloggers. The Media Intern is responsible for researching, writing and editing Marketing Communications projects, which include brochures, reports, monthly e-newsletters, special event materials and web content, and will maintain and update media contact lists and research new contacts, both through traditional and digital media methods. They will also assist with other administrative marketing tasks as required.

The successful candidate will have or be working towards a related degree enjoys multi-tasking. Superior writing, copyediting and communication skills are required. Knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite, and experience in the cultural sector or not-for-profit organizations and French bilingualism are assets. Hours are flexible as are start/end dates based on the student’s school requirements.
