Call for Volunteer Docents

Do you love art and interacting with like-minded people?

Consider joining our vibrant McMichael Canadian Art Collection Volunteer Docent program as either a School Programs or Gallery Tour Docent.

What does a Docent do?

During the 2016/17 school year, McMichael Docents and Educators provided tours for more than 30,000 students and adult visitors. Our teaching philosophy emphasizes an interactive approach, encouraging an exchange between the Docent and gallery guests. Tours provide exciting opportunities to view a variety of special exhibitions at the McMichael, as well as the permanent collection which includes artworks by the Group of Seven and their contemporaries and Indigenous artists.

The McMichael Canadian Art Collection has two Docent groups: School Programs & Gallery Tours

School Programs Docents are responsible for conducting tours for school groups while Gallery Tour Docents are responsible for giving permanent collection and special exhibition tours to adult and special interest groups.

If you are interested in applying to be a part of our Docent program, complete the online volunteer application form and forward to the Human Resources department with your resume by October 15, 2017, or via e-mail at hr at
