About the Tours

From December 27-30 the whole family is invited to stop by the McMichael for a Storytelling Circle that explores a different exhibition and theme each day at 11:30 am. Our expert storytellers will regale you with tales of creativity and wonder that will transport you inside the artist’s mind and to the outer reaches of your own imagination. Follow it up with a cozy hot chocolate from CABIN and a walk on the trails! Free with admission, no registration required.

The Storytelling Circles are approximately 45 minutes in length and are free with gallery admission.

Wolves: The Art of Dempsey Bob

Discover the powerful world of Northwest Coast animals, legends and spirits by listening to the stories illustrated by the exquisite wood carvings of Dempsey Bob, a Master Carver from the Tahltan and Tlingit First Nation. Learn about how these carvings came to life and explore some of the materials that they were created with.

What do paintings, sculptures and photographs from different times and places have to say to each other? How are they similar? How are they different? Explore the unexpected conversations that arise between artists from all walks of life, and spark your own conversation.

The fantastical worlds created by Rajni Perera are strongly influenced by the animated science fiction movies that she watched as a child. Can you recognize some of the heroes that are portrayed in her paintings? How might these imagined beings help us survive in the future and what would your future hero look like?
