Crankie Story Box | Drop-in Family Art Workshop
Time: 11 am to 4 pm
Location: Education Space

Join instructor Sandra Tarantino’s art workshop to create a Crankie Story Box – an old-fashioned form of storytelling based on 19th century moving panoramas. Participants will design their own illustrated scrolls using drawing tools, stamps, and mixed materials that will be wound onto a spool and inserted into a viewing box. Scenes will come to life as creators hand-crank their scenes and have fun adding narration, song or music as their stories unfold.

Shoestring’s best-loved production, this whimsical adaptation of Mozart’s famous opera showcases some of the characters, themes and all the best music.
One day on her way home from school, Allegra finds a glimmering golden flute in a pile of leaves. She blows on it, and suddenly her street turns into a dark forest. She blows again, and out pops a strange, feathered bird catcher—with a padlock on his mouth! Why has Papageno had a padlock put on his mouth? not once, but three times!! How can Allegra help Papageno learn his three lessons so they can leave the forest and she can get home for her piano lesson at four o’clock? Through the power of music and the magic of make-believe, they embark on an adventure of sharing and self-discovery involving a four-legged, two-winged, fire-breathing dragon, the even scarier Queen of the Night, and other exotic creatures!
