Ontario’s Greenbelt is the solution for fresh air, clean water, and a thriving economy with healthy local food and active outdoor recreation. At 2 million acres, it’s the world’s largest permanently protected greenbelt, keeping our farmlands, forests, and wetlands safe and secure while fostering sustainable growth.
In celebration of the addition of these important waterways to the Greenbelt, the McMichael Canadian Art Collection, the Professional Photographers of Canada, and the Friends of the Greenbelt Foundation asked Ontarians to share their photos of water’s many iterations and forms in the Greenbelt and in these urban river valleys and coastal wetlands.
We received over 800 photo submissions from every corner of the Greenbelt. The twenty winning photographs – selected by a jury from McMichael, the Friends of the Greenbelt Foundation, and the Professional Photographers of Canada – represent rivers that clean and protect our water, wetlands that are home to wild animals, and lakes and water resources that are vital to us and to our future. This Community Exhibition is on display in our Community Gallery.
