In-Person Spotlight Tours

About the tours

In-person tours return to the McMichael and offer a wonderful introduction to the gallery, its permanent collection, special exhibitions, and outdoor spaces. Each spotlight tour is led by one of our highly-trained docents and provides an up-close look at one facet of the art of Canada.  

The in-person tour will be approximately 45 minutes in length.

Free with gallery admission.


Spotlight On: William Kurelek

Thursdays at 2:00pm

Explore the artworks of William Kurelek on this spotlight tour. Facilitated by a McMichael Docent, this interactive engagement will encourage participants to take part in meaningful art conversations around the art of William Kurelek and the themes found within his work.

Spotlight On: Wanda Koop

Fridays at 2:00pm

Shine the spotlight on Wanda Koop during this in-person gallery tour.  Led by a McMichael Docent, this engagement explores Koop’s artworks encouraging guests to share ideas and discuss what they see.

Spotlight On: Outdoor Art at the McMichael 

Thursdays-Sundays at 12:30pm

Join an outdoor tour and discover the rich history of the art installations on the McMichael grounds, including the Sculpture Garden, while enjoying a blissful walk through the unrivaled beauty of the Humber River Valley. The tour includes an opportunity to explore a unique chapter of Canadian art history with a visit to the historic Tom Thomson Shack, while learning more about work of artist-in-residence Jen Aitken as part of the RBC Emerging Artist Residency program.
