Program Description
This virtual painting studio led by artist Judy Sherman will offer personalized instruction on working with oil paint. Sherman will guide participants from getting started in this challenging medium through to final composition. With live demonstrations in oils, exercises in painting, and individual mentorship of the work in progress, students will learn how to see the world as an artist and how to use the right tools to sharpen and refine their skills. Sherman will cover a wide range of painting skills and topics, including how to understand values, composition, colour, shape, form, lighting, brush technique and much more. This class will be delivered via the video conferencing app, Zoom.

Level: Beginner/Intermediate. Our experienced instructor will adapt her teaching style to the participants’ experience.
Fee per session: $180 general public; $144 McMichael Members .
Maximum 18 participants.

About the Instructor
After a successful career as a graphic designer, Judy studied Academic Painting in Florence, Italy and in 2006 received an Ontario Arts Council Emerging Artist Grant. She has been interviewed for the Rogers TV series, Colour and Vision – Portraits in Art, was published in American Art Collector magazine and has appeared on City Line / City TV with Marilyn Dennis. Judy is a narrative painter using a juxtaposition of Old Masters’ style and present-day life. She has juried shows, conducted workshops, and been teaching privately for over 15 years. An award-winning artist, Judy is represented in galleries, corporate, and private collections around the world.
