SUMMARY:2024 Views from Pine Cottage
DESCRIPTION:McMichael Community ExhibitionViews from Pine CottageJuly – November\, 2024About the ExhibitionSince 1965\, the McMichael has offered high-quality adult art education through artist-led studio workshops. Today\, this tradition continues with both in-person art classes and virtual studio workshops. \nViews from Pine Cottage is a juried exhibition of student-created paintings and drawings in oil\, acrylic\, pastel and watercolour. The works were made by participants in studio and master classes led by artists David McEown\, Dominik Modlinski\, Lydia Panart\, Judy Sherman and Andrew Sookrah in the McMichael’s Pine Cottage and online over the past year. \nThis selection showcases a wide range of participants’ interests and styles\, while celebrating their talents and accomplishments. It is also an opportunity to thank all the instructors who have enthusiastically met the challenge of delivering their artistic programming virtually. Their commitment to nurturing creativity can be seen in the abundance of expression and joy in the works on view. \nBe sure to see exhibition Views from Pine Cottage in the Community Gallery on your next visit to the McMichael. \nExhibitsWeathering OverRobin L PotterAcrylic on a gallery canvas Cotton Candy SkyTammy D’ArolfiAcrylic on canvas ExhaleOrnella GivensAcrylic on canvas board Kensington Market\, Downtown TorontoCarmine VescioAcrylic on canvas board Good MorningJanice JonesOil on canvas board Guidance From A DistanceEmilia Filicetti VidekaOil on canvas Superior LakeshorePatricia NolanWatercolour on paper Little Lake in the FallWJ. SUMMARY:2024 McMichael En Plein Air Competition - Call for Artists
DESCRIPTION:2024 McMichael En Plein Air CompetitionCall for ArtistsOrganized by the McMichael Canadian Art CollectionCompetition DatesSaturday\, August 3 through Monday September 30\, 2024Artworks Online Submission DeadlineTuesday October 8\, 2024\, 5 pmSubmission Forms (Adults)Submission Forms (Children & Youth)The McMichael is pleased to announce the return of the annual En Plein Air Competition. During the course of the competition\, which runs from August 3 to September 30\, artists are invited to work en plein air anywhere on the McMichael’s grounds\, in and around the charming Village of Kleinburg\, and in the historic Humber River Valley along the Carrying Place Trail\, one of the most historically important Indigenous trading routes in North America. \nDrawing inspiration from the exhibition River of Dreams: Impressionism on the St. Lawerence\, the 2024 En Plein Air Competition continues the Canadian tradition of outdoor artmaking in the spirit of the Quebec Impressionists from more than a century ago. \nBy proposing two new thematic categories for adult competitors\, we encourage artists to choose their preferred approach to the landscape genre. The first category reflects a more traditional landscape practice inspired by the Impressionist and Post-Impressionist masters\, known today as the Contemporary Landscape. The second category emboldens the artists to unleash their imaginations and provide a visual statement of how technologically mediated climate change and growing urbanization have affected the natural environment. \nThis year’s Children and Youth Categories for artists aged 6-15 will be facilitated through the new Paint-Out sessions. This new format includes a short introduction to en plein air techniques from a McMichael Educator\, admission to the grounds\, and complimentary art materials. \nFinally\, any artwork created within and depicting the Village of Kleinburg will be considered for the special Kleinburg Village Prize. \nIt’s time to get outside and create your masterpiece. \nBest of luck to all! \nCompetition CategoriesAdultsArtists aged16 and older are invited to produce and submit one work per participant* in either of the two thematic categories: \n\nContemporary Landscape;\nLandscape Re-imagined.\n\nMedium options: \n\nWorks on canvas/panel (canvas size 16 x 20 inches only);\nWorks on paper (format 11 x 14 & 14 x 18 inches);\nPhotography** (print format 11 x 14 inches).\n\nImportant notes: \n* If more than one work is submitted\, all submissions will be automatically deleted;\n** If shortlisted\, the artist will be responsible for the printing of the image. \nAny size variation must be authorized by our staff. If for any reason you prefer a different size\, please contact programs@mcmichael.com \nWork may be completed at home or in the studio. \nChildren & YouthPaint-Out Sessions NEW!Thursday\, August 15\, and 22 from 10:30 AM to 12:30 PM\nSeptember 22 from 10:30 AM to 12:30PM \nPaint-Out Starting Location: Woodchopper’s Shed \nRegisterProgramming and parking free. We also encourage the artists to set their canvases in Kleinburg Village and along the banks of the Humber River. \nPlease note that during this period the artists will be provided with free parking and access to the grounds upon request. Please note that no specific submission for this last award is required. \nA People’s Choice Award will be awarded based on QR code polling of gallery visitors during the exhibition of the shortlisted works. \nThe award winners will be announced during an in-person celebration of this competition on Sunday\, January 26\, 2025. \nInsurance and Publicity\nThe selected applicants will be required to sign a release form permitting the use of their images in the virtual exhibition hosted on the McMichael’s website and to promote the McMichael En Plein Air Competition. \nThe artwork produced during the competition will belong to the artists. The McMichael reserves the right to use image(s) for a virtual exhibition and for promotional purposes.
