SUMMARY:Abstract Painting Workshop with Lydia Panart - September 2025
DESCRIPTION:Lydia PanartAbstract Painting WorkshopThis in-person two-day workshop will offer artists the opportunity to immerse themselves into the abstract realm. \nArtist Lydia Panart will show participants the steps to create an abstract painting from the conceptual idea to the final resolution. This time\, playing with a variety of coloured papers from different sources in a simple collage application\, Lydia will encourage students to explore a couple of compositions as small sketches (main inspirational ideas) to be developed as a second step on a canvas by changing scale (from a small scale in the first design\, to the actual size of the canvas). In this step\, collage won’t necessarily be a part of the final painting. \n“As an artist\, my intention has always been to engage the viewer in a visual dialogue with me\, looking for that authentic connection\, for a richer experience beyond our individual realities and perceptions.” \nThrough visual explanations about the elements & principles of design\, Lydia will be guiding in composition\, colour\, contrast/transitions\, etc\, including painting techniques demonstrations along the process. Lydia will be offering one-on-one feedback and group discussions looking for a rich process for everyone. \nThis program is suitable for those with some previous painting experience looking to enhance their own artistic voice. \nMaterials ListDownloadDate & Time\nSaturday\, September 6 & Sunday September 7\, 2025\nfrom 10 am to 4 pm  \nProgram Cost\n$240 – General Public\n$192 – McMichael Members \nLocationMcMichael Canadian Art Collection\n10365 Islington Ave\,\nKleinburg\, ON L0J 1C0 RegisterTicket sales are non-refundable. \nAbout the InstructorLydia Panart is an award-winning artist from Buenos Aires\, Argentina. SUMMARY:From Drawing to Painting: Two-Day Workshop
DESCRIPTION:Dominik J. ModlinskiFrom Drawing to Painting: Two-Day WorkshopHave you ever wanted to paint with more freedom and become more expressive? This studio program is designed for beginner and intermediate artists who wish to paint with greater freedom and become more expressive. \nUnder the guidance of professional artist and instructor Dominik Modlinski\, this two-day workshop is intended to hone students’ drawing and painting skills and to expand their creative language. Emphasis will be on risk-taking\, abstract design\, and mark-making—all three necessary components to take one’s work to the next level and create a unique creative signature: \n\nunlock true creative potential;\nopen up the possibility for a purer\, honest\, and unique brushwork;\nestablish narrative symbolism in a painting.\n\nStudents will begin this artistic adventure while examining the dynamic power of composition and color. Working from a photo reference\, participants will create drawing thumbnail sketches focusing on key areas including light and dark values\, edges\, and lines as a warm-up to composing a dynamic composition. One of these “thumbnails” will be used as the basis for concept development\, which will ultimately become a drawing and finally\, a larger canvas or panel. \nModlinski will introduce students to a foundational structure of using shape\, value\, color\, edges and center of interest. The aim of this workshop is to inspire students to compose artwork based on strong colour contrast principals which are carried diligently throughout creative process resulting in bold and colorful works of art. \nStudents are free to apply the techniques learned in this studio to their own\, personal style of painting. This workshop is intended for both oil and acrylic mediums. \nSuggested MaterialsRegisterNot a Member? SUMMARY:Abstract Painting Workshop with Lydia Panart - September 2024
DESCRIPTION:McMichael Abstract Acrylic Painting WorkshopLydia PanartThis in-person two- day workshop will offer artists the opportunity to immerse themselves into the abstract realm.  Finding inspiration on the 4 Elements (Earth\, Water\, Air & Fire)\, Artist Lydia Panart will guide participants through the painting process – from reflections on the symbolic meaning behind each element\, to their visual abstract representation. \nThrough visual explanations\, painting techniques demonstrations\, and one-on-one feedback\, Lydia will guide the students along the layering process exploring 2 elements of their choice. \nThis program is suitable for those with some previous painting experience looking to enhance their own artistic voice. \n“As an artist\, my intention has always been to engage the viewer in a visual dialogue with me\, looking for that authentic connection\, for a richer experience beyond our individual realities and perceptions.” \nThe theme of the workshop is the four elements (earth\, water\, air and fire). You will choose two elements or a combination of two. Inspiration images such as photographs are welcome. \nThe most important part of the process will be to find symbolic meaning behind the chosen element. We will brainstorm together first\, and then I will introduce technique/s to try as part of the painting process. \nDate & Time\n\nSaturday\, September 7\, 2024\nSunday\, September 8\, 2024\n10 am to 4 pm\n\nCost\n\n$240 General Public\n$192 McMichael Members\n\nLocation\n\nMcMichael Canadian Art Collection\n10365 Islington Ave\,\nKleinburg\, ON L0J 1C0 \n\nRegisterTicket sales are non-refundable. \nMaterials ListDownloadSurface\nTwo stretched canvases or canvas boards 20”x20” or the size of your choice.\n\nPlease bring them primed with a coat of white gesso. \nAcrylic Paints\n(think on the elements you’ll be interested in exploring)Suggested Colours: \n\nWhite Gesso\nRaw Umber\nUltramarine Blue or Prussian Blue\nPhthalo Blue or Phthalo Turquoise\nMagenta (or Dioxazine Purple if you already have)\nCadmium Yellow Medium\nPyrrole Red or Cadmium Red Medium\nRed Oxide\nYellow Ochre\n\nModeling Paste\n(small container)It dries white and can be used for texture. \nNote: The goal is to mix colours and play with different consistencies. If you have a fluid acrylic Quinacridone Nickel Azo Gold\, please bring it along. I will demonstrate how to layer beautiful luminous reds. I will show the process even if you don’t have your own set of paint to experiment with. \nFeel free to bring whatever colours you already have or your favorites. DESCRIPTION:IN-PERSON STUDIO PROGRAM\nFrom Drawing to Painting: Developing your Signature Style  \n\nProgram Description \nThis new studio program is designed for beginner and intermediate artists who wish to paint with greater freedom and become more expressive. \nUnder the guidance of professional artist and instructor Dominik Modlinski\, this two-day workshop is intended to hone students’ drawing and painting skills and to expand their creative language. Working from a photo reference\, participants will create drawing thumbnail sketches focusing on key areas including light and dark values\, edges and lines as a warm-up to composing a dynamic composition. One of these “thumbnails” will be used as the basis for concept development\, which will ultimately become a final drawing\, and finally\, a larger canvas or panel. \nModlinski will introduce students to a foundational structure of using shape\, value\, color\, edges and center of interest. The aim of this workshop is to inspire students to compose artwork based on strong colour contrast principals which are carried diligently throughout creative process resulting in bold and colorful works of art. Students are free to apply the techniques learned in this studio to their own\, personal style of painting.
