Every third Sunday of the month is Family Sunday at the McMichael!

Join us all day long for drop-in hands-on art workshops, interactive tours and storytelling circles created just for families. Each Family Sunday has a different theme and a special performance at 2 pm so join for one or try them all!

Experience drop-in art making activities, storytelling sessions, exhibition tours and a special performance with master puppeteer, Adam Proulx, as he tells the story of Emilio and his beloved chameleons in our special performance!

Home Sweet Home

With the start of spring, the natural world reawakens and the season cleaning, fixing and planting can begin! Join us at the McMichael for an exploration of what home sweet home means throughout the natural world and in our communities. Culminating in a performance by Rag and Bone Puppet Theatre of Felicity Falls, this Sunday’s programming will, through storytelling sessions and drop-in art workshops, explore what it means to make a home for people, animals, and all creatures.

The art of puppetry comes alive with this Family Sunday full of storytelling and creative family fun. Learn how to create a paper puppet and use it to let your imagination run wild, discover the stories of the Northwest Coast in our storytelling circle and enjoy a heartwarming performance by Little Red Theatre in which some helpful elves spread kindness and generosity to a couple in need.

Tell Me a Story, Draw Me a Book

Cozy up with the literary arts in preparation for the upcoming long winter months. Learn about how illustrators brings stories to life through art, from traditional drawing and paintings to cartooning and comics. Inspired by a lesser-known collection of illustrated stories by beloved artist Emily Carr, the McMichael will offer in-gallery story making sessions and cartooning workshops. Browse the marketplace and take in performances of traditional Eastern and Western First Nation community dance and music, featuring Tribal Vision Dance. This program is offered in partnership with True North Aid Organization.
