John Scott: Firestorm<\/span><\/i> presents the work of the late Canadian artist <\/span>John Scott<\/span><\/b> (1950\u20132022), gathering paintings, drawings, and sculptures made by Scott from the 1980s through the 2010s. <\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>

The exhibition focusses on works that explore machine imagery, conflict, violence, and surveillance. Growing up on the Canadian\/American border in Windsor, Ontario, in the 1950s and 1960s, Scott developed an acute awareness of American politics and militarism. Depictions of stealth bombers, firearms, and tanks were used by Scott to comment on human vulnerability and the threat of nuclear arms, violence, and the threat of tyranny \u2013 all subjects expressed in his raw and urgent graphic style.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>

Firestorm<\/span><\/i> is guest curated by Dr. John O’Brian, who has undertaken new research to position Scott’s accomplishment within a global context. The exhibition celebrates a unique and singular voice in the history of Canadian art, one grappling with the acute threats to humanity in our times.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div>

L\u2019exposition <\/span><\/span>John Scott<\/span> : <\/span>Orage de feu<\/span><\/span> pr\u00e9sente des peintures, dessins et sculptures r\u00e9alis\u00e9s par l\u2019artiste canadien <\/span><\/span>John Scott<\/span><\/span> (1950<\/span>–<\/span>2022)<\/span> entre les ann\u00e9es 1980 et 2010<\/span>. <\/span>L\u2019accent est mis sur <\/span>l<\/span>es \u0153uvres <\/span>inspir<\/span>\u00e9<\/span>es <\/span>par<\/span> l\u2019imagerie des machines, les conflits, la violence et la surveillance. <\/span>Ayant grandi dans les ann\u00e9es 1950 et 1960 pr\u00e8s de la fronti\u00e8re canado-am\u00e9ricaine \u00e0 Windsor <\/span>(<\/span>Ontario<\/span>)<\/span>,<\/span> Scott <\/span>a<\/span> \u00e9t\u00e9 fortement impr\u00e9gn\u00e9 par la politique et le militarisme des \u00c9tats-Unis.<\/span> Il a utilis\u00e9 des repr\u00e9sentations de bombardiers furtifs, d\u2019armes \u00e0 feu et de chars d\u2019assaut pour \u00e9voquer la vuln\u00e9rabilit\u00e9 de l\u2019\u00eatre humain et la menace nucl\u00e9aire<\/span>, <\/span>l<\/span>a <\/span>violence<\/span> ainsi que le spectre de la tyrannie \u2013 tous des sujets exprim\u00e9s dans <\/span>un<\/span> style graphique <\/span>cru et imp\u00e9rieux.<\/span>\u202f\u202f<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>

John O\u2019Brien, le commissaire invit\u00e9 de l\u2019exposition, a effectu\u00e9 de nouvelles recherches afin de situer <\/span>les r\u00e9alisations de Scott dans un contexte global.<\/span> L\u2019exposition rend hommage \u00e0 une voix unique et singuli\u00e8re dans l\u2019histoire de l\u2019art canadien<\/span>, <\/span>u<\/span>ne voix qui <\/span>a su capter<\/span> avec acuit\u00e9 les menaces qui p\u00e8sent aujourd\u2019hui sur l\u2019humanit\u00e9. <\/span>L\u2019exposition<\/span> sera accompagn\u00e9e d\u2019un catalogue r\u00e9dig\u00e9 \u00e0 plusieurs mains <\/span>et comportant des essais d<\/span>e John <\/span>O\u2019Brian<\/span>, <\/span>de <\/span>Richard Hill <\/span>et de<\/span> Robert Jacobs.\u202f\u202f<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div>
