Only a handful of the paintings sold, but\u00a0about 2,000 people took in their artwork over the show&rsquo;s three-week run.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><a style=\"color: #000000;\" href=\"https:\/\/ago.ca\/agoinsider\/magnetic-allure-group-seven\">According to the gallery<\/a>, now the Art Gallery of Ontario, that first outing garnered mixed reviews. \u00ab\u00a0Seven Painters Show Some Excellent Work\u00a0\u00bb touted the Toronto Daily Star newspaper, while the Canadian Courier asked \u00ab\u00a0Are these new Canadian painters crazy?\u00a0\u00bb<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Now, on the 100th anniversary of that inaugural exhibit, the Group of Seven\u00a0is being recognized with multiple efforts that put their paintings \u2014 showcasing an influential, distinctively Canadian aethestic\u00a0and vision of our vast country\u00a0\u2014 in front of a fresh crop of art lovers today.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Canada Post unveiled Thursday morning a new issue of stamps featuring paintings by the Group&rsquo;s founding members \u2014 Franklin Carmichael, Lawren Harris, A.Y. Jackson, Frank Johnston, Arthur Lismer, J.E.H. MacDonald and Frederick Varley \u2014 to celebrate the anniversary.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">The works featured are:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><em>In the Nickel Belt\u00a0(1928)<\/em>, by\u00a0Franklin Carmichael.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><em>Miners&rsquo; Houses,\u00a0Glace Bay\u00a0(circa\u00a01925)<\/em>, by\u00a0Lawren Harris.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><em>Labrador Coast\u00a0(1930)<\/em>, by A.Y. Jackson.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><em>Fire-swept, Algoma\u00a0(1920)<\/em>, by\u00a0Frank H. Johnston.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><em>Quebec Village\u00a0(1926)<\/em>, by\u00a0Arthur Lismer.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><em>Church by the Sea\u00a0(1924)<\/em>, by J.E.H.\u00a0MacDonald.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><em>Stormy Weather, Georgian Bay\u00a0(1921)<\/em>, by Frederick Varley.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">The paintings featured come from the collections of six major Canadian galleries across the country. The project also highlights archival photos of each artist\u00a0from the McMichael Canadian\u00a0Art Collection.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Also on Thursday, the McMichael \u2014 the art gallery built upon\u00a0<a style=\"color: #000000;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cbc.ca\/archives\/entry\/robert-and-signe-mcmichael-the-benefactors\">a landmark collection<\/a>\u00a0of Group of Seven paintings \u2014 announced a partnership with Google to digitize up to 200 of the group&rsquo;s works.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"background: white; margin: 0cm 0cm 10.5pt 0cm;\"><span style=\"font-size: 11pt; font-family: Arial, sans-serif; color: #000000;\">Once completed, it will become the largest digital collection of Group of Seven pieces, according to the Kleinburg, Ont., gallery.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"background: white; font-variant-ligatures: normal; font-variant-caps: normal; orphans: 2; text-align: start; widows: 2; -webkit-text-stroke-width: 0px; word-spacing: 0px; margin: 0cm 0cm 10.5pt;\"><span style=\"font-size: 11pt; font-family: Arial, sans-serif; color: #000000;\">In the interim, the tech giant&rsquo;s arts &amp; culture team pulled together\u00a0<a style=\"transition: background-color 0.25s linear 0s; color: #000000;\" href=\"https:\/\/artsandculture.google.com\/story\/3QWBsltSVCCfAQ\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">a quick digital\u00a0profile<\/a>\u00a0introducing the Group of Seven to an international audience and created a\u00a0virtual tour of sorts, by matching several paintings with current Google Street View images of the locations that inspired them.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"background: white; margin: 0cm 0cm 10.5pt 0cm;\"><span style=\"font-size: 11pt; font-family: Arial, sans-serif; color: #000000;\">The McMichael\u00a0had already kicked off the centenary celebrations in January with the vast exhibition A Like Vision: The Group of Seven at 100, showcasing masterpieces by every member of the group and set to remain on display through December.\u00a0Though currently closed due to the coronavirus pandemic, the gallery will also unveil in September a complementary exhibit that spotlights female Canadian art pioneers, called Uninvited: Canadian Women Artists in the Modern Movement.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"background: white;
