This will be a series of four events that celebrates the planning, naming, and opening of a new Ceremonial Garden on the McMichael grounds, acknowledging the rich history of this land along with those communities who contributed to the development of Canada. Below are details of the first event in this series.<\/em><\/p>\n

Join the McMichael and Elders Jim Dumont and Shelley Charles, and Lynn Short from Humber College as they unveil the location of a new Ceremonial Garden. Ojibway Elder Garry Sault from the Mississaugas of the New Credit First Nation will also be here to share his knowledge through ceremony and storytelling revolving around the Indigenous presence and use of the land on which the McMichael is situated.<\/p>\n

Snowshoe Hike
\n<\/strong>Meeting House,\u00a0<\/strong>1 and 2:45 pm<\/p>\n

Join Kortright Centre for Conservation staff on a snowshoe hike to explore the beauty of\u00a0nature (we will hike without snowshoes if there is not enough snow)<\/em>.\u00a0Learn to identify some winter plants and find neat animal tracks on the ground, all while exploring\u00a0the wonderful sights and\u00a0sounds that nature has to offer.<\/p>\n

Feel free to explore the nature touch table where you will find real furs, skulls and bones for everyone to touch,\u00a0examine and learn about.<\/p>\n

Ceremony and Talk

Join Elders Shelley Charles and Garry Sault for an Indigenous ceremony, followed by storytelling revolving around the Indigenous presence and use of the land on which the McMichael is situated.<\/p>\n

iPad Workshops
\n<\/strong>Meeting House,\u00a0<\/strong>1 and 2:45 pm<\/p>\n

Take part in a fun artmaking activity within the gallery spaces. Using iPads guests will investigate and creatively respond to the unique approaches and techniques utilized by Woodland Artist Norval Morrisseau.<\/p>\n<\/div>
