In 1903, David Milne arrived in New York City to make his way as an artist. By the time he left in 1916, Modernism had taken hold in Manhattan, with the 1905 opening of Alfred Stieglitz\u2019s first gallery, and continuing with the revelations brought on by the 1913 International Exhibition of Modern Art, also known as the Armory Show.<\/span><\/p>\n

This talk, presented by Jessica Todd Smith, the Susan Gray Detweiler Curator of American Art and Manager of the Center for American Art at the Philadelphia Museum of Art, will explore some of the extraordinary social, cultural, technological, and aesthetic revolutions that began to unfold during this period and examine the formative experiences that helped Milne develop his unique artistic vision.\u00a0<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>
