This Family Day, we\u2019re celebrating the traditions of storytelling through art, theatre and music! In cultures around the world, stories have been handed down as family heirlooms for generations, a theme explored in the special exhibition Meryl McMaster: Bloodline<\/a><\/em>.<\/a><\/i> Drawing inspiration from McMaster\u2019s photographs, which use storytelling and costumes to tell family histories, these Family Day activities will invite visitors to explore their own stories through music, art and theatre. Featuring a special afternoon performance by Little Red Theatre.<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>

Story Helpers, Drop-In Art Workshop<\/span><\/span><\/h3>\n

Inspired by the art of Meryl McMaster, this workshop will provide a treasure trove of the materials for children to create their own decorative objects or garments that tell the story of their family. Whether it\u2019s an elaborate crown, a traditional staff or a family crest, your family history is the start but the only limit is your imagination!<\/p>\n

Please note:<\/strong> your creation can also be used in our Movement and Music workshop led by TIFTPA (The Institute For The Performing Arts)<\/a><\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>

Join a 30-minute storytelling session that will reveal the stories behind Meryl McMaster\u2019s photographs and discuss the meaning of the symbolic objects that fill her compositions.<\/p>\n<\/div>

Enjoy a modern reimagining of the classic Brothers Grimm tale about the life and struggles of poor shoemaker Hans and his wife Martha. The couple, struggling to pay rent, receive an order for a pair of luxurious boots from an ambitious young rock musician. Uncover why cute but mysterious eleves suddenly appear to lend Hans and Martha a hand with their business. This presentation is a timeless tale of generosity, luck and fate, with a \u201cpuppety\u201d twist!<\/p>\n

Inspired by Meryl McMaster, this performance workshop will focus on personal storytelling through the use of movement, sound, and visual props. Led by TIFTPA (The Institute For The Performing Arts)<\/a><\/span>, this workshop will introduce children to communicating thoughts, ideas, feelings and stories through drama and music.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>
