The McMichael Canadian Art Collection will offer free admission to the<\/span> gallery<\/span> during Doors Open Vaughan. V<\/span>isitors<\/span> can<\/span> join <\/span>a special<\/span> drop-in heritage tour<\/span> that will <\/span>explore<\/span> the history of the <\/span>g<\/span>allery<\/span>, its architectur<\/span>e,<\/span> and grounds<\/span>.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Please note that CABIN cafe will close at 2 pm for a special event (final seating at 1 pm). Parking fees remain in effect.<\/i><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>

Heritage Tour<\/span><\/span><\/h2><\/div>

On this special guided tour for Open Doors Vaughan<\/strong>, discover the history of Kleinburg\u2019s beloved McMichael Canadian Art Collection<\/strong>, the second largest log building in Ontario. Learn about founders Robert<\/strong> and Signe McMichael<\/strong> and their relationship to visionary architect Leo Venchiarutti<\/strong> who designed both their original home in 1954 and the later additions that turned it into the gallery visitors know and love today.<\/p>\n

Get an up-close view of the McMichaels\u2019 original home, including the original entryway, living area, and lounge; outdoors see parts of the original home and former garage as well as the historic Tom Thomson Shack<\/strong>. The tour will conclude in the Artists’ Cemetery, where visitors will learn about the McMichaels\u2019 friendships with members of the Group of Seven<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div>
