March 21, 2012 Kleinburg, ON – The McMichael Canadian Art Collection will host a unique and exciting fundraiser on Saturday, June 16, 2012. The fundraising event, Fashion as Art: Exposed!, will celebrate the fusion of art and fashion with seven of Canada’s leading fashion designers and will include a private viewing of the cutting edge exhibition, Fashionality: Dress and Identity in Contemporary Canadian Art, with noted curator and fashion theorist, Julia Pine.
The fundraiser will be hosted by noted fashion personality, Jeanne Beker, and this exclusive event will be laced with thought-provoking art and the latest in haute couture. Fashionistas and art lovers alike will be treated to a glamorous evening filled with innovative design, gourmet cuisine and fabulous music.
This fundraiser highlights the connectivity between art and fashion. The funds raised from this event will be used to advance the future of Canadian art through interactive educational programming and provocative exhibitions at the McMichael Canadian Art Collection.
“The McMichael Canadian Art Collection is an iconic Canadian cultural institution,” said Tina Tehranchian, McMichael Trustee and Event Chair of the fundraiser. “We are thrilled to highlight the fusion of art and fashion through a spectacular celebration on June 16th and to honour the Group of Seven Designers for their important contributions to contemporary Canadian fashion design.”
The Fashion Design Council of Canada will put the spotlight on Canada’s Group of Seven Fashion Designers and highlight their artistic talents. Canada is home to some of the most exciting and innovative designers. These designers have helped shape our present day fashion landscape and they will be recognized at the event on June 16, 2012. The seven designers are Joeffer Caoc, Comrags, Greta Constantine, David Dixon, Thien Le, Lucian Matis, and D’Arcy Moses.
