February 9, 2012 KLEINBURG, ON – Chase away those winter blues at the McMichael Canadian Art Collection as we celebrate two days of holiday family fun with a Family Day Festival on Sunday and Monday, February 19 and 20, 2012.
What nicer way to celebrate Family Day than by celebrating those who live close to you? This weekend, as part of The McMichael Tree Project, the gallery presents Kleinburg-based folk artist Mary Scattergood. A daughter of a skilled cabinet maker, Mary has a special affinity with wood and often chooses wooden panels as a painting support for delightfully whimsical village scenes. Come observe the artist in action to talk about her choice of technique, style, and themes, and then create your own art in a hands-on Folk Art family workshop!
There are plenty of activities on at the gallery this weekend to escape the chilly weather! Warm up to Spanish and Latin American music during our Sunday Concert with Cuban-Canadian classical pianist Beatriz Boizán. On Monday, see Jim Dalling’s heart-warming theatrical performance, Loki’s Big Dream—a magical tale inspired by a young boy’s relationship with his beloved grandpa. Be sure to take part in The McMichael Tree Project, celebrating the artistic, cultural, and natural aspects of the tree with two inspiring exhibitions, a variety of programs, and special installations. Enjoy our new winter menu and book a reservation for family brunch in SEVEN Restaurant (call 905.893.1121, ext. 2363).
