May 13, 2016, Kleinburg, ON – On Saturday, June 4, 2016, the McMichael Canadian Art Collection’s fifth annual signature fundraiser, the Moonlight Gala, returns to dazzle 500 distinguished guests with an unfor-gettable evening of dining and dancing under the stars. This year’s Moonlight Gala will be headlined by JUNO® Award winner, Divine Brown.
“We are thrilled to welcome our supporters to this year’s Moonlight Gala as we celebrate the McMichael Canadian Art Collection’s 50th anniversary season,” said 2016 Gala Chair, Tina Tehranchian. “This marks a milestone year as we commemorate everyone that has contributed to the success of the McMichael from the past half-century.”
Emceed by co-anchor of CTV News Toronto, Ken Shaw, guests will be treated to a culinary extravagan-za, captivating musical performances and a live and silent auction hosted by fashion icon Jeanne Beker.
The gallery grounds will be transformed into the setting of the most exciting, sumptuous, glamorous, magical, and elegant outdoor party—where you can mingle with art lovers, donors, celebrities and corpo-rate leaders to celebrate the 50th anniversary of Canada’s only art gallery devoted to collecting Canadian art, in style. Last year’s event raised more than $225,000.
Guests will be the first to experience the special exhibition program titled 50/50/50, the exploration of art in fifty-year leaps stretching backward and forward from the McMichael’s founding years in the mid-1960s.
For the first time in McMichael history, the Moonlight Gala is hosting an exclusive after-party from 10 pm to 1 am, titled Moonlight Gala After Dark. After Dark is designed to engage and entertain young profes-sionals within the GTA and York Region
JUNO® Award winner, Divine Brown, the Gala’s headline entertainment, is an established R&B power-house. Her five octave vocal range makes everybody stand up and pay attention while her electric ener-gy transforms the room. Other performers include returning Gala-favourite jazz band, The Collective, JU-NO® Award winner Sean Jones and DJ Odario Williams.
Proceeds from this annual event go directly toward the conservation and preservation of the 6,000 art-works in the permanent collection created by some of Canada’s most iconic artists, including the Group of Seven, six of whom chose the McMichael as their final resting place.
