Record Attendance at Eigth Annual Moonlight Gala in Support of the McMichael Canadian Art Collection
June 12, 2019, Kleinburg, ON – The McMichael Canadian Art Collection is pleased to announce the success of its signature fundraising event, the Moonlight Gala, which was attended by a record number of guests despite the inclement weather, including Honorary Co-Chairs the Honourable Michael A. Tibollo, Minister of Tourism, Culture and Sport and Silvana Tibollo, and the Honourable Maurizio Bevilacqua, Mayor of the City of Vaughan. The 2019 Moonlight Gala was in support of the conservation and exhibition of more than 6,500 artworks in the McMichael’s permanent collection. Hosted by CTV Toronto’s Queen’s Park Bureau Chief Colin D’Mello, guests of this dazzling event on Saturday, June 1, 2019, were treated to a glamorous evening of dining and dancing under the stars.
Each year the Moonlight Gala raises important funds for the McMichael’s permanent collection, special programming and art classes, ensuring that the gallery can continue to share the art of Canada with audiences around the world through extraordinary exhibitions such as Itee Pootoogook: Hymns to the Silence, which premiered for guests that evening.
“As chair of the cherished event we know as the Moonlight Gala, I am honoured to work alongside a team of such enthusiastic and talented volunteers to create the most magical evening of the year,” said Michèle D. McCarthy, Moonlight Gala Chair. “We are very proud that the Gala has grown into an annual “must-attend” event for celebrating and supporting Canadian art. It is my hope that our guests enjoyed the great art, sublime food and fantastic music.”
Guests of the Moonlight Gala were treated to a culinary extravaganza, a heart-pounding series of auctions, spectacular performances by Humber College music students and Juno-nominees Kelly Fraser, The Collective and the George St. Kitts Band, and above all, the company of so many who love and support the cultural heritage of Canada.
“I’d like to thank all of our sponsors and guests for their continued support and for making the 2019 Moonlight Gala a resounding success this year,” said McCarthy. “Your continued support and shared passion help us share the treasures of Canadian art with future generations to come. We look forward to seeing you again in this special place and be sure to mark June 6, 2020 on your calendars for next year’s Moonlight Gala.”
