April 26, 2016, Kleinburg, ON – Ontario is supporting arts and cultural events in Vaughan that will attract tourists, boost the local economy and create jobs.
Through the Ontario Cultural Attractions Fund, the province is helping the McMichael Canadian Art Collection develop and promote the 50th anniversary of the gallery with an investment of $200,000.00 (with a fixed repayment of 40%).
The anniversary will include several programs and events centred on four major exhibitions:
- 50/50/50 (June 4, 2016 to January 8, 2017)
- Higher States: Lawren Harris and his American Contemporaries (February 4, 2017 to September 4, 2017)
- The Group of Seven Guitar Project (summer 2017)
- Passion over Reason: Tom Thomson and Joyce Wieland (summer/fall 2017)
Investing in cultural tourism supports the government’s economic plan for Ontario. The four-part plan is building Ontario up by investing in people’s talents and skills, making the largest investment in public infrastructure in Ontario’s history, creating a dynamic, innovative environment where business thrives, and building a secure retirement savings plan.
