October 14, 2016, Kleinburg, ON – The McMichael Canadian Art Collection’s Board of Trustees is honoured to announce the appointment of Mr. Andrew W. Dunn as Chair, beginning August 24, after formally receiving his Order in Council from Ontario Premier Kathleen Wynne on September 22. Mr. Dunn steps into this role after serving as Acting Chair of the Board since April 1, 2016.
“We are all delighted to be working with Andrew and the Board in this exciting new phase for the gallery,” says Nathalie Mercure, Interim Executive Director. “Andrew’s strong leadership skills and experience in the areas of business and government relationships will be a great asset to the McMichael.”
Mr. Dunn’s new role coincides with a transformative time for the esteemed McMichael Canadian Art Collection, which has throughout the year commemorated its 50th anniversary with outstanding exhibitions featuring the works of pioneering painters and contemporary Canadian artists. In spring 2017, the gallery will see Ian Dejardin of London, England’s the Dulwich Picture Gallery join the gallery as Director, melding his global experience with the gallery’s strength in celebrating The Art of Canada*.
“I am honoured to be serving as Chair of the Collection at this time in its evolution. My predecessor and long-time friend, Upkar Arora, has done a great job in his four years as Chair, and I feel fortunate to be inheriting the role after he has made such great progress,” said Mr. Dunn. He added: “I am very excited about the potential of the McMichael; there is alignment around creating a sense of vibrancy and relevance.”
The Board will be well served by Mr. Dunn, an eminent investment advisor with extensive experience in business and community involvement. He is currently the Founder and Managing Partner of private equity investment and advisory firm Canadian Shield Capital. His list of career accomplishments includes spending close to three decades at Deloitte, where he served as Vice-Chair of Deloitte Canada, Chair of its Client Cabinet, and Managing Partner of Tax in Canada. Mr. Dunn serves on the boards of the Children’s Aid Foundation and the Upper Canada College Foundation, as well as a number of business boards, including Hatch, Canada’s largest private engineering firm. His tenure as Chair of the McMichael Board is set to run until August 2019.
The McMichael Canadian Art Collection’s Board of Trustees and the McMichael Canadian Art Foundation are both governed by members who bring a wide range of experience to the gallery.
Mr. Dunn has been a member of the McMichael Board of Trustees since 2012.
