The McMichael Canadian Art Collection’s Signature Fundraiser,
the Moonlight Gala, Returns June 1, 2024
May 22, 2024, KLEINBURG, ON – The McMichael Canadian Art Collection is pleased to announce the return of its signature annual fundraiser, the Moonlight Gala on Saturday, June 1, 2024. Canadian art’s biggest night under the stars will dazzle hundreds of distinguished guests with a memorable evening of dining and dancing, all in support of the art of Canada. Funds raised directly support the McMichael’s exhibition, conservation, and educational activities.
Co-chaired by Debra Fenwick and Laura Mirabella with a welcome from Honorary Chair Steven del Duca, Mayor of the City of Vaughan, guests of the Moonlight Gala will be treated to a culinary extravaganza by The Food Dudes, an interactive gourmet experience by award-winning Indigenous chef David Wolfman, fine Ontario wines from Canada’s first fully LEED-certified winery Stratus Vineyards, and live performances headlined by the Montreal Rhapsody Orchestra.
The Gala’s popular online auction will also return for 2024. This year, the auction will offer an enviable selection of all-Canadian travel packages, experiences, and gifts.
Guests will enjoy exclusive access to the McMichael’s 2024 summer exhibitions: People of the Watershed: Photographs by John Macfie, Bertram Brooker: When We Awake!, Jackson’s Wars: A.Y. Jackson before the Group of Seven, and Ghosts of Canoe Lake: New Work by Marcel Dzama, which examine diverse Canadian and Indigenous cultural legacies.
“The McMichael Canadian Art Collection provides visitors with a visual illustration of our country’s rich history, exhibiting the diverse perspectives and lived experiences of Canadians from all backgrounds,” said Neil Lumsden, Minister of Tourism, Culture and Sport. “Our government is proud to partner with the McMichael to showcase and celebrate Canadian excellence in the arts, reaffirming Ontario’s reputation as a world-class destination for arts and culture.”
“The Moonlight Gala is a great night when our friends and supporters come together under the stars to celebrate our unique offering of art and nature,” said Sarah Milroy, Executive Director and Chief Curator. “There’s no place quite like the McMichael—the true home to the art of Canada—and we look forward to sharing it all on this special evening.”
Proceeds from the Moonlight Gala go toward the conservation and exhibition of more than 7,000 works of art in the McMichael’s permanent collection, the development of pacesetting educational programs for children and youth, and the stewardship of the McMichael’s natural landscape, trails, gardens, and outdoor art.
