Saturdays at the McMichael (SAM):
Children’s Art Classes

Virtual / In-person

Our Kids featured camp & program

Winter: January 9 to February 27 (8 classes)

Spring: TBD (8 classes)

Please note that Saturdays at the McMichael classes will be delivered virtually until we are able to safely provide in-person sessions.

Registration required. Fee per 8-week session: $199 general public; $159 McMichael Members.

Ages 7 to 12.
Saturdays, 10 am to 12 pm.

These popular children’s art classes offer a creative exploration of various art mediums, encourage skill development, cultivate art appreciation and introduce children to the art of Canada. Facilitated by professional art instructors, children will be divided into age-appropriate groups to be determined upon registration.

Art Supplies and Project Materials

Project-specific materials such as drawing and painting materials (illustration paper, canvas etc.), clay, and construction paper etc., will be provided through curbside pickup. You will receive further details regarding contactless pickup upon registration.

Participants are asked to obtain their own basic art kit consisting of acrylic and watercolour paints, fine-tip permanent and regular markers of varying colours, coloured pencils, paint brushes, a plastic pallet, water container, pencils, erasers, glue and a pair of scissors.

Until in-person classes resume, this program will be delivered via the video conferencing platform Zoom. You do not require a Zoom account to participate; the link to access the class will be sent to you in advance, however an internet connection, microphone and camera-enabled computer or smartphone is required.

The safety and health of our students and staff remain our top priority

We have implemented a number of new measures to ensure the health and safety of every student enrolled in our Saturdays at the McMichael classes. Children will be seated at separate tables. Each child will be provided with a personal art kit which will be stored in the studio and not shared with other students. Our staff have created seating arrangements to allow students to sit at least 2 metres away from other participants. During the program, art instructors will ensure that all students practice social distancing measures. Students and staff are required to wear face masks at all times in accordance with York Region public health guidelines, and each learning space will be equipped with hand sanitation stations and a sink for thorough hand washing. We kindly request that all parents and guardians review social distancing practices with their child prior to the start of the session.
