Soutenir l’art du Canada

Make a charitable donation to the McMichael Canadian Art Foundation.

The McMichael is founded on the very idea of giving. Robert and Signe McMichael donated their home, land, and art collection to the Province of Ontario in 1965, and the gallery has since relied on generous donations, sponsorship and gifts from both the private and public sectors.

Become part of the McMichael family — as a member, as a corporate partner, as a volunteer or docent, or by making a charitable donation through the Foundation to support the gallery’s permanent collection, special exhibitions, and exciting range of programs for adults and children.

Kindly note – If you are a Foundation or Registered Charity and wish to make a donation to the McMichael Canadian Art Foundation, we kindly ask that you contact Colm Burrows, Development Associate at 905.893.1121 ext. 2277 or via email at cburrows@mcmichael.com, who would be happy to assist you. Please do not use the website to make this donation.

Levels of Giving

We are Canada’s only museum solely devoted to the art of Canada, showcasing the best this country has to offer, both past and present, from coast to coast to coast.

Whether you love the iconic canvases of Lawren Harris, Emily Carr or Jean Paul Riopelle, or the newest creations of Rajni Perera, Kent Monkman or Rebecca Belmore, we invite you to become a McMichael patron and enjoy our extraordinary collection and exhibitions through special engagements and bespoke museum experiences.

When you support the McMichael, you sustain our mission to present world-class exhibitions of Canadian art and empower us to expand our innovative creative learning programs built on the pillars of art and culture, nature and wellness.

Our patrons are committed to the art of Canada, and enjoy a direct connection with our collection, curators, artists and authors through bespoke private events and experiences. We genuinely love meeting people who share our love of Canadian art. Please join us!

Gift of Art

The McMichael greatly appreciates the generosity of donors who wish to make gifts of Canadian art to the collection. The gallery urges any donor considering a gift of art to consult with his or her tax adviser before proposing such a gift.

The McMichael regularly receives offers of donations which, as an Agency of the Government of Ontario, are evaluated according to our rigorous Acquisitions Policy. This policy is guided by professional museum standards set out by the Canadian Museums Association and is approved by the McMichael’s board and the Ministry of Tourism, Culture and Sport. A range of criteria are used to evaluate each proposed item including:

  • Suitability and appropriateness for the collection (ie. does it fill an identified gap in the collection?)
  • Condition, Storage and Maintenance Requirements
  • Provenance

We are enormously grateful to all those who consider donating works of art to the McMichael, but we must emphasize that many donations, however generous, regrettably cannot be accepted. This in no way reflects the quality of the works on offer and we appreciate your understanding.

To inquire about a proposed gift of art please contact the Head of Collections, Christine Braun, below. Please allow two weeks for acknowledgement of your offer. A full evaluation may take longer depending on the size and complexity of the proposed gift.
