Presenting
Meryl McMaster
Offered in partnership with the Department of Visual Art and Art History of
York University
Wednesday, February 15 | 5 PM
In partnership with the Department of Visual Art and Art History at York University, the McMichael is pleased to present the 2023 Goldfarb Lecture in Visual Arts by Meryl McMaster, a Canadian artist of nehiyaw (Plains Cree), Métis, British and Dutch ancestry who explores the self in relation to land, lineage, history, culture and the more-than-human world. McMaster’s work is predominantly photography-based and incorporates props, sculptural garments and performance, forming a synergy that transports the viewer out of the ordinary and into a space of contemplation and introspection.
Coinciding with the solo exhibition of the artist’s work entitled Bloodline at the McMichael from February 4 to May 28, 2023, part of the Scotiabank CONTACT Photography Festival, the talk will be introduced by Chief Curator Sarah Milroy.
