Heritage Tours
The McMichael Canadian Art Collection will offer free admission to the gallery during Doors Open Vaughan. Visitors can join a special drop-in heritage tour that will explore the history of the gallery, its architecture, and grounds.
Please note that CABIN cafe will close at 2 pm for a special event (final seating at 1 pm). Parking fees remain in effect.
Heritage Tour
On this special guided tour for Open Doors Vaughan, discover the history of Kleinburg’s beloved McMichael Canadian Art Collection, the second largest log building in Ontario. Learn about founders Robert and Signe McMichael and their relationship to visionary architect Leo Venchiarutti who designed both their original home in 1954 and the later additions that turned it into the gallery visitors know and love today.
Get an up-close view of the McMichaels’ original home, including the original entryway, living area, and lounge; outdoors see parts of the original home and former garage as well as the historic Tom Thomson Shack. The tour will conclude in the Artists’ Cemetery, where visitors will learn about the McMichaels’ friendships with members of the Group of Seven.
