Celebrate the end of summer with a vibrant day of art, storytelling, and theatre inspired by Morrice in Venice, the McMichael’s stunning exhibition spotlighting Canadian artist James Wilson Morrice’s time in Italy. This free, family-friendly event brings the spirit of Venice to life through hands-on activities and lively performances.

Venetian Carnival Masks

Drop-in Art Making Workshop

Create your own Venetian carnival mask inspired by centuries of tradition!

First worn in 12th-century Venice, these ornate masks allowed wearers to celebrate anonymously—often using colours and symbols to hint at their personality or hidden message. In this drop-in workshop, design a mask that reflects the traits you’d like others to discover about you.

Join us for an imaginative journey through the streets and canals of Venice! Inspired by Morrice’s time in the city, this interactive storytelling session explores its famous bridges, unique architecture, and timeless charm.

Spotlight On

Outdoor Tours

Join a guided tour of the McMichael’s stunning grounds and discover the rich biodiversity of the Humber River Valley. Highlights include the Sculpture Garden, Minokamik Garden, and Artists’ Cemetery. The tour ends inside the historic Tom Thomson Shack, where you’ll explore a new installation by artist-in-residence Iris Häussler.

Romeo & Juliet

by DuffleBag Theatre

A laugh-out-loud take on Shakespeare’s timeless tale! When Romeo crashes a Capulet party, he doesn’t expect to meet Juliet—or fall in love. In true DuffleBag style, audience members are invited to join the action in this hilarious and heartwarming performance of Romeo & Juliet, full of unexpected twists and interactive fun.

DuffleBag Theatre is the “nearly world famous” troupe that intends to entertain the galaxy, one planet at a time. The company was founded in 1992 at the London International Children’s Festival (London, Ontario). Now based in Toronto, DuffleBag Theatre has grown from 4 to 14 actors who perform over 600 shows every year across Canada, the U.S. and internationally.
