Get into the spirit of summer at the McMichael! Celebrate Father’s Day and the approaching summer solstice with a lively day of art, music, and movement for the whole family.
Enjoy the vibrant rhythms of Calypso and Merengue, explore the science of warm and hot colours, and craft your own tambourine to use in our creative dance and movement workshop.
It’s a fun, hands-on celebration of sunshine, creativity, and quality family time—perfect for kicking off the season!

Wish Upon a Tambourine
Drop-in Art Workshop
Get creative with artist and educator Melanie Billark as you design your own tambourine and shaker using vibrant colours and playful patterns. Participants are encouraged to set an intention for their musical sculpture by adding a wish, or memory inside.

Too Hot to Handle
Storytelling Circle
Why is red the colour of love in some cultures and danger in others? Join our interactive storytelling circle to explore the meanings behind warm and hot colours in global traditions and in the art on view. Led by an experienced educator, this session is a colourful journey through culture, symbolism, and creativity.

Spotlight On:
Outdoor Tour
This outdoor tour explores landmarks on the grounds of the McMichael, including the original McMichael home, the Tom Thomson Shack, the Artists’ Cemetery, the Sculpture and Minokamik Gardens, and outdoor trails that wind through the Humber River Valley along the Heritage Trail. During the tour we will visit some of the most enchanting places on the gallery grounds to actively listen to and discuss the sounds of nature.
