Spotlight On: Gathie Falk and William Kurelek, Public Tour

Time: 12:30 to 1:30 pm
Location: Starting in the Grand Hall
All Ages

Delve into the worlds of Gathie Falk and William Kurelek in this docent-led Spotlight Tour.

The tour starts with William Kurelek and will focus on the McMichael’s major new acquisition of a suite of 16 paintings entitled Jewish Life in Canada. Painted in the mid-1970s, Ukrainian-Canadian Kurelek intended the suite as a gesture across the cultural divide, demonstrating his open-mindedness toward Canadians of cultural and religious backgrounds different from his own. The tour continues with Gathie Falk: Revelations where visitors will explore piles of fruit, floating cabbages, and expanses of brightly coloured flowerbeds by one of Canada’s most visionary and experimental artists.

Performance: Sultans of String Christmas Caravan

Time: 2 to 3 pm
Location: Gallery 8

From fiery fiddle tunes to a Caribbean sleigh ride, this surprising and delightful holiday fiesta heats up when Sultans of String bring their signature sound to well-known gems such as Jesu, Joy of Man’s Desiring, a Turkish twist on Greensleeves, Silent Night, as well as a Hot Club jazz inspired Django Christmas, and a Rumba-Flamenca fuelled Jingle Bells. Sultans of String are joined by shimmering guest vocalist Rebecca Campbell (Jane Siberry, Ian Tamblyn) and 2022 JUNO Award nominee Donné Roberts.
