Program Description

This virtual class includes live online interaction with artist Andrew Cheddie Sookrah and will offer instruction to artists working to refine their technique in the subjects and styles of their choice. Sookrah will provide live demonstrations in acrylics, watercolors and water-mixable oils, with individual conversations and guidance regarding the works in progress. Topics covered include rendering effective form, mastering perspective, rendering reflections in water, patterns, texture, skies and clouds, rocks, ice, snow, dramatic light, controlling depth and negative space, with special attention given to expanding your repertoire of effective brushstrokes, including painting with a palette knife and found objects. Basic drawing techniques such as composition, color and texture will be explored. This class will be delivered via the video conferencing app, Zoom.

Level: Open to all skill levels. Our experienced instructor will adapt his teaching style to his students’ experience.

Requirements: An internet connection, microphone and camera-enabled computer or smartphone is required. This class will be delivered via the video conferencing app Zoom. You do not require a Zoom account to participate; the link to access the class will be sent to you in advance.

About the Instructor

Andrew Sookrah is a professional artist and an elected member of the Canadian Society of Painters in Watercolour, the Society of Canadian Artists, the Ontario Society of Artists, and the Portrait Society of Canada. He was a runner up contestant in Landscape Artist of the Year Canada 2020. Sookrah uses a combination of painting demonstrations and individual guidance to create a fun, supportive and collaborative atmosphere.
