Ruth Cuthand: Bead Works

Tuesday, June 22, 2021

7 pm (EST)

About the talk

Join McMichael Chief Curator Sarah Milroy and Saskatchewan-based artist Ruth Cuthand for a discussion of her work. An artist of Plains Cree, Scottish and Irish ancestry, Cuthand has long examined the terror and beauty of viruses in her exquisite beaded panels. Recently, responding to the COVID-19 pandemic, Cuthand has made a series of beaded N95 masks, works that remind us of the contagion and catastrophe suffered by Indigenous people under colonialism.
