En Plein Air Competition 2022
The McMichael Canadian Art Collection’s annual En Plein Air Competition is a call to artists to embrace the Canadian tradition of landscape painting.
Following in the footsteps of the Group of Seven and their contemporaries, each summer and early fall painters are invited to set their easels down on the McMichael’s grounds and in the historic Village of Kleinburg to paint en plein air.
The 2022 competition saw 72 artists of all ages, submit more than 90 works of art for consideration in oil, acrylic, watercolour and pastel.
This exhibition celebrates the 33 artists of distinction whose works successfully captured the unique spirit and charm of the land. The top prize winners, including the People’s Choice Award winner, will be announced on February 19, 2023 at a reception and award ceremony.
This exhibition is offered thanks to the generous support of Ms. Amanda Xiao.
We are pleased to share the exceptional work of shortlisted artists in each category. On behalf of the McMichael family, we congratulate all the artists that competed in this year’s En Plein Air Competition.
