Program Description:

This week-long camp, led by experienced McMichael art instructors, will give kids a chance view the exhibitions at the Gallery, participate in educational outdoor activities, and experiment with artmaking. Campers will begin each day with a three-hour in-gallery activity, followed by a two-hour virtual artmaking session over Zoom. The Art Explorers program is the perfect place for your child to express their creativity and meet new friends!

Project-specific materials such as drawing and painting materials (illustration paper, canvas etc.), clay, and construction paper etc., will be provided through contactless pick-up. Participants are asked to obtain a personal art kit consisting of acrylic and watercolour paints, paint brushes, oil and chalk pastels, a water container, pencil, eraser, glue, a protective smock (or paint appropriate clothes) and a pair of scissors.

An internet connection, microphone and camera-enabled computer or smartphone is required. This class will be delivered on Zoom. You do not require a Zoom account to participate; the link to access the class will be emailed to you in advance.

COVID-19 Safety Information:

Please note that all in-person activities will follow the McMichael’s COVID-19 safety protocols to ensure the health and safety of every child enrolled in our March Break Camps. Campers and staff are required to wear a face mask in accordance with York Region public health guidelines. Participants will be divided into small groups according to their age to ensure that social distancing can be maintained. We kindly request that parents and guardians review social distancing practices with their child prior to the start of Art Explorers.

Program Description:

In this virtual program, campers will delve into the basics of digital photography through hands-on technical instruction. In each session a professional photographer will guide campers through an exploration of digital camera equipment, the mechanics of lighting and the latest digital photography trends and techniques. In the afternoon, participants will experiment with digital photo editing in a virtual studio gaining practical experience working with Adobe Photoshop image manipulation and printing. This camp is perfect for your budding photographer and all kids interested in fine art photography, media and journalism, fashion, and all realms of digital content!

A DSLR camera with a 35mm lens is preferred, but a high-end camera phone can be used as a substitute. Campers will require access to a USB flash drive to save their photographs.

An internet connection, microphone and camera-enabled computer or smartphone is required. Alternative software to Adobe Photoshop is available upon request. This class will be delivered on Zoom. You do not require a Zoom account to participate; the link to access the class will be emailed to you in advance.
