In 2023, the McMichael worked with more than100 students from three different Toronto District School Board schools . From March through May, students met once a week for five weeks, working with McMichael Educators, Volunteers and artist Mo Thunder.

For the final session, the McMichael team travelled to participating schools where students led their peers through a Signature Studio program 257 students from nine classes across three schools participated in the final session of the program.

Artwork created by the V.O.I.C.E.S. participants can be seen below. The project encouraged students to look closely at the artwork of contemporary artist Rajni Perera and reflect on her visions of imagined futures. Students were asked to create a device that could help humanity thrive in a future or place facing environmental challenges. Some students have included an artist’s statement to accompany their work, guiding the viewer to a greater understanding of the process behind their creation.
