The Landscapes of Robert Munsch

Stave off the impending gloom of winter with a Family Sunday exploring the whimsical world of Robert Munsch’s stories!

If you’ve ever looked at the works in our exhibition spaces and imagined them as part of Munsch’s dreamscapes, you’re not alone! Indulge these possibilities in our Storytelling Circle, create your own Paperback Princess, and enjoy some of the most amusing and comical stories as presented by M. John Kennedy in his Fireside Munsch performance.

Drop-in Family Art Workshop: Paper Bag Fun!

Time: 11 am to 4 pm
Location: Education Space
All Ages

Young artists will try their hand at creating a Paper Bag Prince, Princess, oror dragon puppet inspired by Robert Munsch’s Paper Bag Princess. Using paper bags, construction paper, markers, glue, scrap fabric and string, participants will bring their characters to life!

 Storytelling Circle: My Favourite Munsch Stories

Time: 11:15 am, 12:15 pm and 1:15 pm
Location: Starting in the Grand Hall
All Ages

Inspired by classic Robert Munsch stories such as Blackflies, A Promise is a Promise, or Purple, Green and Yellow, this Storytelling Circle examines the possibility of matching one of the author’s fanciful stories with a landscape from the McMichael’s collection.

Spotlight On: Conversations: Masterworks from the McMichael

Time: 12:30 to 1:30 pm and 2 to 3 pm
Location: Starting in the Grand Hall
All Ages

This docent-led tour leads visitors through the Canadian art pantheon in Conversations Conversations, which features diverse works carefully curated from the Gallery’s extensive permanent collection. Designed to convey something of the collection’s current breadth and taking pleasure in placing disparate works in creative conversation with one another. Conversations will explore works from The Group of Seven, Emily Carr, David Milne, Pudlo Pudlat, Rebecca Belmore, Edward Burtynsky, Gershon Iskowitz, and many others.

M. John Kennedy’s hit solo show, Fireside Munsch, is a high-energy performance featuring four classic Munsch’s stories performed as a single, wacky play. Fireside Munsch will feature 50 Below Zero, PIGS, Something Good, and The Paper Bag Princess.
