Join the McMichael for a day of ceremony, storytelling, and art-making that celebrates the story of Huron-Wendat people who trace their origins to the nearby Humber River Valley, and whose vibrant cultural heritage continues to thrive today in Wendake, Quebec. This special day also celebrates the return of the exhibition Early Days: Indigenous Art at the McMichael to our gallery!

Learn about traditional plant knowledge from Wendat culture and be inspired by collaborative artistic practice!

Inspired by the mural featured in our Early Days exhibition, this collaborative workshop developed by Wendat artist Manon Sioui will focus on three central plants from the traditional Wendat garden also known as ‘The Three Sisters.’ Learn about the legend of the Three Sisters, and draw paper squash, beans, and corn to add to the wall of the McMichael Education Space to recreate this beautiful traditional garden.

This drop-in workshop will be offered in French and English.

This outdoor tour explores landmarks on the grounds of the McMichael, including the original McMichael home, the Tom Thomson Shack, the Artists’ Cemetery, the Sculpture and Minokamik Gardens, and outdoor trails that wind through the Humber River Valley along the Heritage Trail. During the tour we will visit some of the most enchanting places on the gallery grounds to actively listen to and discuss the sounds of nature.

Celebrate the harvest season with artist Manon Sioui as you craft your own corn husk doll—a cherished Wendat tradition that reflects sustainability and respect for the land. This 90-minute workshop will be led in French with written English translations and bilingual hands-on support.

Découvrez les connaissances traditionnelles des plantes dans la culture wendate et laissez-vous inspirer par une pratique artistique collaborative! 

Inspiré par la murale présentée dans l'exposition Early Days, cet atelier collaboratif conçu par l'artiste wendate Manon Sioui mettra en valeur trois plantes essentielles du jardin traditionnel wendat, également connu sous le nom des « Trois Sœurs ». Découvrez la légende des Trois Sœurs et dessinez des courges, des haricots et du maïs en papier à ajouter au mur de l'Espace d'éducation du McMichael pour recréer ce magnifique jardin traditionnel. 

Cet atelier libre sera offerte en français et en anglais. 

Cette visite extérieure explore les terrains du McMichael, notamment les jardins de sculptures et de Minokamik, ainsi que les sentiers extérieurs qui longent la rivière Humber dans la vallée. Au fil de la visite, nous ferons halte dans quelques-uns des endroits les plus enchanteurs du domaine pour écouter activement et discuter des sons de la nature.
