The group will continue outdoors to enjoy a brief walk\, look at and – if weather permits – photograph or sketch the landscapes on the McMichael grounds. Inside the studio\, we will have a short break before creating our own watercolour landscape paintings! \nClay Works\nIn this workshop we will explore sculpture including different ways sculptures are made and the materials artist use to make 3D works for art. We will discover many types of 3D art together. We will start with a walk Outdoors to take a closer look at some of the sculptures located on the gallery/McMichael grounds. Then\, inside the gallery we will continue our exploration of other sculptures. In the Studio\, we will have a short break and then we will make our own 3D art using clay. \nPaint with Texture\nIn this workshop we will examine how artists express ideas using thick (impasto) paints. Inside the gallery we will begin with a visit to the theatre as a “Behind the Scenes’ look at this room which was a part of the McMichael’s home. We will also handle an artist’s paint box and their tools to examine how some artists expressed their ideas of nature. We will look at some paintings in the gallery spaces and then head outdoors to take a leisurely walk. In the studio\, we will have a short break\, then make art. We will make our own nature-inspired painting using thick paint and a palette knife. \nPrints-Prints-Prints\nIn this workshop we explore the Inuit stone cut printmaking method and explore a variety of printmaking techniques. We begin in the Pine Cottage where we can handle objects from the Arctic and learn about printmaking through photos and hands-on activities. Then we head outdoors for a short walk to enjoy the natural setting of the McMichael. Our walk will include (if weather permits) a close-up look at the Inukshuk located on the grounds. Inside the gallery we will explore artwork to see how the natural environment can be a source of inspiration for artmaking. Back in the studio we will create our own individual prints using various tools and materials designed for creative expression. \nThe Shape of Things\nThis workshop will take a closer look at the McMichael’s collection indoors and outdoors. We will begin with a gallery visit which includes interactive art-viewing activities exploring a variety of artistic styles. We will discover how artists use 2D shapes in their artwork to express ideas. We will then take a discovery walk on the McMichael grounds to explore nature and outdoor artwork. Back in the studio participants will use paper and a variety of design tools\, drawing and colouring materials\, to creatively express their ideas in making their own ‘shape’ inspired artwork. \nScratch Painting\nIn this interactive\, hands-on workshop we explore how many artists use colour and dramatic lines in their paintings. We will begin with a walk to the Tom Thomson Shack and a ‘Behind the Scenes’ visit inside. We will learn about the shack and how it had once been Tom Thomson’s home and studio. We then go into the gallery to view and explore a variety of artworks with a focus on line and colour. In the studio we will make our own ‘scratch’ paintings using acrylic paint\, oil pastel and an assortment of inscribing tools. \n\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \nParticipation Guidelines\n\nFor young adults\, ages 18 and over\, living with special needs.\nPre-registration is required.\nMaximum number of participants per workshop – 10 (plus caregivers).\nParticipants must be able to engage independently in activities\, or with parent/guardian/caregiver support.\n\nPlease note: This is not a transfer of care program. Each session is facilitated by an art instructor\, two assistants\, and up to two volunteers from the McMichael team. \nGroup Facilitator Requirements\nParticipants are given the choice of enjoying these experiences independently or with support\, however\, the program is not a transfer of care program. Facilitators are responsible for the participant for the duration of the event. \n\nRemain on the McMichael’s grounds or property during the event\, even if the participant is independent.\nProvide contact information to McMichael staff if leaving the event space during the duration of the program.\n\nGroup Booking Information\n\nLiving With Art is a series of six sessions. Bi-weekly OR bi-monthly scheduling options are available.\nWhile the program is offered as a series\, upon discussion each session may be booked individually.\nThe Living With Art program is available for group bookings of up to 15 participants plus facilitators.\nThe program is designed to integrate in-gallery/outdoor experiences with studio activities onsite at the McMichael. Living With Art can also be booked as an in-classroom/offsite experience based solely on studio activities by request.\n\n*Please dress accordingly for the weather as portions of these workshops will take place outdoors. \n\n\n \n \n READ MORE \n \n\n\n\n\n \n \n \n \n \n Inquiry Form \n \n \n \n \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n \n \n \n \n\n	\n \n \n \n\n \n \n \n\n \n\n\n \n \n \n \n \n\n	Load More\n\n\n\n\n\n\n \n \n \n \n Funding Provided By\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n In Partnership With\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Media Partner

DESCRIPTION:Green\, Gallery\, Garden: \nA McMichael Day Trip \nCo-hosted by Opaloma \n \n \n \n \n \nEscape the city for a day of art\, poetry\, plants\, and conversation. Join Odessa Paloma Parker of Opaloma for an intimate bus trip to the McMichael Canadian Art Collection\, where art and landscape come together in one of Canada’s most beautiful gallery settings. \nThe day begins with a curator-led tour of Fresh Air: New Acquisitions in Context\, followed by a 3-course prix fixe picnic lunch on the McMichael grounds. In the afternoon\, artist Zachari Logan will discuss his new book of ekphrastic poems and drawings\, Green—“poems that pulse with vegetal sensitivity\, moving between alleyways and art history\, between inner monologue and ecological longing”—and share selected readings before leading a plant walk through the grounds alongside McMichael gardener Kim Magee. \nIn 2017\, Logan was artist-in-residence in the iconic Tom Thomson Shack\, creating work from discarded plants found on the grounds. Watch him reflect on that experience in the short film by David Hartman below. \nTickets include round-trip bus transportation from St. George Station\, all programming\, gallery admission\, and lunch. \nThis event takes place rain or shine; participants are encouraged to dress for the weather and wear comfortable walking shoes. \n\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Itinerary \n \n \n \n \n \n\n10 AM: Bus departure from St. George TTC Station\n11 AM — 12 PM: Private tour of Fresh Air: New Acquisitions in Context with curator John Geoghegan\n12 PM: Three-course prix fixe picnic lunch on the McMichael grounds (see menu – menu selections are made at time of purchase)\n1 — 2 PM: Artist talk and poetry reading with Zachari Logan\, featuring his new book\, Green (available for purchase)\n2 — 3 PM: Outdoor plant walk and conversation with Zachari Logan and McMichael garden educator Kim Magee\n3:15 PM: Return departure to St. George TTC Station\n\n\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Date\n JUNE 28\, 2026 \n \n \n \n Time\n 10 AM — 4:30 PM\n \n \n \n Price\n $60/person (includes bus\, admission & lunch)\n \n \n \n \n \nAdmission required \n\n\n \n \n \n Register Now\n \n \n Prix Fixe Menu\n \n \n \n \n \n\n\n\n\n \n \n \n \n \n\n \n \n \n Green Zachari Logan\n \n \n\n Purchase Book\n \n \n \n\n\n\n\n \n \n \n \n \n \n\n \n \n \n Zachari Logan\n \n \n \nZachari Logan is a queer Canadian settler poet and artist whose artwork has been exhibited throughout North America\, Europe and Asia.
