En Plein Air Competition 2023
The McMichael Canadian Art Collection’s annual En Plein Air Competition is a call to artists to embrace Canadian landscape tradition.
Following in the footsteps of the Group of Seven, painters set their easels down on the McMichael’s grounds and in historic Kleinburg to compete.
This two month-long competition saw 68 artists, including children and youth, submit over 80 works of art all completed here on the grounds of the McMichael. They painted in oil, acrylic, watercolour and pastel, and challenged themselves on both canvas and paper surfaces.
This exhibition celebrates the 29 artists of distinction whose works successfully captured the spirit and charm of the land. The top prize winners including the People’s Choice Award winner will be announced on February 11, 2024 at our reception and award ceremony.
