Tom Thomson Shack
Artist Residency
The McMichael Canadian Art Collection is proud to host a recurring summer artist residency for a Canadian artist in the historic Tom Thomson Shack.
Beginning with Norval Morrisseau, who worked intermittently in the Thomson Shack on the grounds of the McMichael in the 1970s, the McMichael has endeavored to provide spaces for artists to make art, pursue new projects, exchange ideas, and engage deeply with nature and the ecology of the Humber River Valley watershed.
Our residencies have welcomed artists from across disciplines—visual artists, luthiers, composers, filmmakers, and authors—each contributing to the dynamic dialogue that defines art in Canada today.
