    La sélection des œuvres logées dans les réserves de la Collection McMichael d’art canadien est née de mon désir, en tant que nouveau directeur général, de découvrir la collection rapidement et en profondeur. Monter une exposition me semblait la solution idéale.

    J.E.H. MACDONALD : EN DÉTAIL

    Le McMichael célèbre l’art et la science de J.E.H. MacDonald. La restauratrice Alison Douglas partage les résultats d’une analyse scientifique menée par l’Institut canadien de conservation visant à identifier les matériaux et documenter les techniques propres aux œuvres de MacDonald. Réunissant des photographies microscopiques, l’exposition explore la démarche de l’artiste, notamment sa prédilection pour les études de petites dimensions.

    Instruction will be offered to artists working to refine their offerings in the subject of their choice—landscape, still life, figurative/portraiture, wildlife/pets—and in their individual style, be it realism or varying degrees of abstraction. Special attention will be given to basic drawing techniques, composition, colour, texture, use of materials and effective brushstrokes.

    Break, Hop & Stomp Family Sunday

    Celebrate dance with the famed KeepRockinYou, an artist-based b-girl collective that seeks to inspire and empower young girls. From 12 to 1 pm, join their “cypher practice”, try new moves or just enjoy watching them in action. A special hip hop dance performance will begin at 2 pm.

    Beats2Borders Videography Workshop

    In conjunction with the exhibition …Everything Remains Raw: Photographing Toronto’s Hip Hop Culture from Analogue to Digital, the McMichael Canadian Art Collection is pleased to present the Beats2Bordes Videography Workshop, a unique learning opportunity for youth aged 14 to 18. Led by photojournalist Juan Gomez, the workshop will cover essential videography techniques, including composition, lighting and shooting on location.

  • Graffiti Art Within the Hip Hop Movement

    Speakers: Eklipz, EGR, Elicser, and Dr. Mark V. Campbell Since the late 1960s graffiti has been seen as a public nuisance and a problem in major cities like New York. More than 40 years later, cities are now embracing graffiti with their beautification programs. Join the esteemed graffiti artists, Eklipz, EGR and Elicser while they discuss the importance of street art, their creative practice, and how their aerosol hieroglyphics make urban spaces welcoming.

    Figure Painting

    Working with professional female and male models, Andrew will guide participants through the basics with simple yet effective exercises that will help them create a drawing or painting of the human figure. Andrew Sookrah will conduct demonstrations in various media styles with running commentary on the process.

    Designed for advanced artists, this course will assist participants in developing a personal voice when painting the land. Through observation and analysis, participants will interpret landscape through relevant principles of design and then reconstruct it in paint using individual styles and techniques. Participants are encouraged to bring research material, sketches, or photographs to be used as a base for the work completed in class.
