Eligibility

The McMichael Volunteer Committee’s Autumn Art Sale Fundraiser is open to all living Canadian and Indigenous Fine Artists and Sculptors.

Guidelines

  • For this fundraiser, we accept all genres of original fine artwork only, excluding photography. Artworks which have already been reproduced to create products for sale should not be submitted. Original artworks that have been reproduced will not be accepted.
  • Entries must not be prints, copies, derivatives, or based in any way on other copyrighted or published paintings, photographs or other artistic work.
  • Artwork must be in impeccable condition and priced accordingly. Artworks must be appropriately prepared for immediate hanging. Oil and acrylic paintings on gallery style canvas with the painting wrapping the sides do not require framing. The Art Sale Co-Chairs will disqualify artworks which are misrepresented by the photos used in the selection process, or artworks which are not original, inappropriately framed or in poor condition.
  • Minimum price for artwork is $100.
  • Artists will be allotted a metal panel six feet (horizontal) by seven feet (vertical).
  • Sculptors will receive approximately six feet by six feet display area in which to display three-dimensional artwork that is mounted on a stable base. Tables are available, but you must supply your own pedestals if desired.
  • Artists or a representative for the artist are expected to be in attendance for the duration of the Art Sale.

Application Requirements

  • Application Form: The Application form is available online at McMichaelVolunteers.com or AutumnArtSale.ca. Printed applications are available as backup, however it is requested that the online version is attempted first (this reduces the data entry required and reduces the chance of errors).
  • Digital Images: Five (5) digital images of paintings/sculptures indicative of the works you would bring to the sale. The images may be uploaded as part of the online application process or copied to a USB and mailed to the address listed in the Contact Information/Delivery Address section. Please see “How to Submit your Work for Jurying” below for details.
  • Application Fee: $51.50 (non-refundable). The $51.50 application fee may be paid by e-transfer to the email mvc@mcmichael.com (a password is not required as auto deposit has been set up) OR by cheque payable to “The McMichael Canadian Art Collection” and can be mailed to the McMichael Volunteer Committee at the address listed below. Please DO NOT SEND CASH in the mail.

Please Note: If your payment method is through e-transfer and you submit the e-transfer through a bank account that is not under the same name as your application, please let us know at the time of payment, the name on the account you sent the e-transfer from and your (applicant) name, so that we can match the application to the payment.

Application fees must be received by the Application Deadline of May 15, 2025.

Digital images are viewed by the jury using a computer, so your images must be large enough to be viewed properly. Photographs or printed images are not acceptable for our jurying process. No slides please.

Each of the five (5) images must be:

  • A 72 dpi jpg (this is the normal or standard resolution for digital cameras).
  • Colour mode must be RGB or SRGB (not CMYK) – this should be the normal or default.
  • Images should measure between 1024 and 2600 pixels on their longest side (i.e., taken with a digital camera of 2 megapixels or higher on their best setting). Images smaller than this will not have sufficient clarity, and images much larger will unnecessarily clog up our storage space. Images should not exceed 1.5 megabytes in size. ONLY images 1.5 MB or less can be uploaded via the online application.
  • If you don’t upload your images as part of the online application, they should be sent on a single USB. USBs will not be returned to you. The USB must be clearly marked with your name and sent in a cover which will withstand mailing along with your application.
  • Please name your files with your surname, first initial, and the numbers 1 to 5 (i.e., if your name is Tom Thomson, your filenames would be ThomsonT1.jpg, ThomsonT2.jpg, ThomsonT3.jpg, ThomsonT4.jpg and ThomsonT5.jpg.
  • DO NOT compress the files using ZIP, Stuffit or any other compression software. We may not be able to open it.
  • All submitted artwork will be juried by a selection committee (jury) comprised of such qualified people as gallery staff, curators, art educators, art collectors, artists, and others with a strong background in art.
  • The 2024 Autumn Art Sale top ten selling artists will be automatically invited back.
  • Artists who have shown in previous years are welcome to re-apply. It is suggested that your new and current artworks be shown, as opposed to those from previous years.
  • Decisions will be based on digital images submitted by a blind jury (The jury sees the images only. Artists are not revealed). The jury’s decision is final.
  • Applicants will be notified by email early to mid July 2025.
  • The McMichael Volunteer Committee reserves the right to use submitted photographed artwork for publicity (promotional postcards, ads and web site) and reference purposes.

Upon notification of acceptance into the 2025 Autumn Art Sale, a Placement/Booth Fee of $251.50 is due. Accepted artists and returning artists must submit payment upon notification (no later than August 15th, 2025) either by e-transfer to email mvc@mcmichael.com (password is not required as automatic deposit has been set up) OR by cheque, payable to ‘McMichael Canadian Art Collection.

Participating Artist or their representatives are required to be in attendance for the duration of the art sale. The McMichael Canadian Art Collection and the McMichael Volunteer Committee are not responsible for any damaged or stolen works. Artists are required to sign waivers for Photography and Indemnification.

This is a fundraising event. Volunteers and participating Artists share profits and credit card expenses such that 60% goes to the Artist and 40% to the Volunteer Committee for gallery programming.
