About the Workshop
Inspired by gyotaku, a traditional Japanese method of nature printing that began as a way for fishermen to record their catches, Japanese-Canadian artist Alexa Kumiko Hatanaka will guide participants through the printmaking process using raw fish and washi, a type of traditional handmade paper. Hatanaka will also discuss the varieties and applications of handmade paper and Japanese papermaking history.
