How would you like to go to the McMichael Canadian Art Collection for free?
Until May 31, the McMichael is running a pilot project for Community Access Days (a.k.a. Free Tuesdays). The concept is simple: to help newcomers, those who may find it difficult to access the gallery otherwise, and also to open up the gallery to members of the general public who are looking for an artistic escape.
The gallery is offering complimentary admission to the McMichael’s gallery spaces, including all permanent exhibitions and upcoming special exhibitions.
The McMichael has just begun reaching out to local libraries, community centres, shelters, youth groups, and more. While the gallery is primarily targeting York Region and surrounding areas, the program is open to all. If successful, the McMichael is hoping to expand the program further, so that the gallery can share Canadian art with a wider audience.
Free Tuesdays will be offered during the run of the McMichael’s 2022 blockbuster exhibition, Generations, which includes many rarely seen works by great Canadian artists across several decades and cultural backgrounds.
